Hey Ian,

Thanks for thinking so much about the topic of my post. I definitely don’t agree that these ideas should be “enforced” by government. Rather, I think that engineers should just generally be more thoughtful about what we’re building, and if product asks us to build something we disagree with, we should push back (or quit, in the case of the Volkswagen emissions scandal). Engineers are in great demand. In my opinion, I’d rather have to find a new job than build software that takes lives.

Also, can consumers really consent to something that’s addictive? Is that really consent? I don’t know the answer to that question, but I”m leaning towards no. Let’s build products that consumers fully opt-in to reusing again and again.
